The Family Affair
Introducing the latest in Lustre’s spots – one bar, 3 cousins, 3 very different personalities. Lustre wanted some land to spread out and as family does her two cousins (that she loves) couldn’t let her have that space to herself. They slid their little butts right on in and made themselves at home. After it was all said and done though, we sure are glad they did because the result is the magical playground we have today! It wouldn’t be the same without them….cause lord knows Lustre loves her cousins and what has become a family affair.
Vida Lee
The Delta
Lustre’s Mom, Vernetta, was a reptile hypnotist. She was highly regarded and well known and would take her business on the road traveling from state to state during the summer months making house calls. She would drop Lustre off in Yazoo City on the Mississippi Delta at her cousin’s house. Vida Lee and Lustre Pearl would spend the hot, oppressive summers wearing roller skates and when they were not skating, they were riding giraffe unicycles down Main Street singing their favorite songs loudly. They would tell everyone they were sisters immediately and start their innocent web of lies. That kept things interesting… They spent six consecutive summers together. Then, Lustre Pearl decided she had seen enough of Yazoo City and left for Europe. No plan. No itinerary. Just a backpack and the need for a thrill.
Vida Lee has an icehouse right next to her cousin. Vida Lee is laid back. She likes to keep it simple: she likes Pearl Light in the morning and gin for happy hour. Vida Lee is a gambler. Beware. Do not take the bait. She insists on a pool table and shuffleboard. She has a little stage for some local talent. She works most happy hours but usually sticks around to play pool and hustle her favorites (Um, yes, men and women). She puts all the music on the jukebox and it last for hours so do not waste your money (she will just skip your songs anyways).
Lil Mama
The Lush
Vida Lee and Lustre Pearl’s second cousin recently transplanted from Matlacha, a swampy fish town in Old Florida, where raucous creativity outnumbers seashells on the beach . Lil’ Mama has a snow cone shack–an old cinder block building painted the same color of the Floridian skies that she says she brought with her. Precocious is this little lady’s middle name, and an understatement at that. Wilhelmina by birth and when she is misbehaving, she’s known by most as simply ‘Lil’ Mama’. And you can count on her arriving like a hurricane—snow cones, daiquiris, and anything that she can put soft crushed ice in a pointy paper cup in tow. Her fave is piña colada. What’s yours?
